Ingredients
4 cups flour (480 g.)10 oz. cold unsalted butter, in pieces
1/2 cup sugar (95 g.)1-1/3 cups buttermilk
2 tsp. baking powder1 egg mixed with 2 T. milk for wash (optional)
1 tsp. baking soda1/2 cup snipped dried cranberries
1/2 tsp. salt1/2 cup sliced almonds
Directions

Mix dry ingredients. Cut in butter. If adding dried fruit or nuts, do so now (1-1.5 cup total) and mix into flour. Dried cranberries and sliced almonds is a good combination. Add buttermilk until just combined. Knead gently on floured sheet of baking parchment paper to bring dough together. Divide dough in half and form two 1" thick rounds. Cut into wedges and place on baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with egg wash (or milk) and sprinkle with turbinado cane sugar, if desired. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until toothpick inserted near center comes out clean.
